On March 27, 1858, a decree introduces the striped shirt in the regulatory dress of the sailor.
Produced on specific looms called Rachel looms, this knitted fabric, qualified
as "indémaillable", is composed of simultaneously formed stitches. Combining the
weaving and knitting processes, these large looms were first used in the mid-19th century
. From the 1950s, the fields of application have expanded to be
today used in particular in the field of technical textiles. This unbleached cotton,
gives the garment an excellent hold in both directions of the stitch, limits the
deformation of the knit, with horizontal stripes well parallel.
