The GEL-KAYANO™ 5 OG RETRO TOKYO running shoe pays tribute to the upcoming Tokyo festivities while commemorating the spirit of ASICS' tradition and our Japanese roots.
This traditional running shoe dating from 1999 is making a comeback with its original design. After an initial sketch on paper, designer Toshikazu Kayano was quick to emphasize the resemblance of the upper to the bone structure, organs and muscles of the human anatomy.
Designed in mesh and suede, this shoe introduced two crucial improvements to the shoe, the teardrop tongue and the Quadra lacing system, which creates a better fit and support in the middle of the foot.
The GEL-KAYANO™ 5 OG RETRO TOKYO running shoe features an expanded cushioning pocket using GEL™ technology for optimised comfort in the heel, while the layered application of the components now forms the basis that influences the design of the shoe to this day.
