Wide leg openingLoose fit, wide leg jeans made from 17 oz. of exceptional quality Japanese denim. At 17 oz, this denim is one of the heaviest we've ever used, and with a vivid aging property, it is a true testament to Japanese craftsmanship. The warp and weft yarns were produced by ring spinning the finest organic cotton. They replicate the look of coarse bouffant yarns in the early 20th century - a result that was considered acceptable at the time, especially for heavy-duty workwear. The warp yarns were rope dyed pure indigo - a dyeing technique that produces a fairly thin, but dark outer layer of indigo, while the core remains undyed. An ancient technique that is considered to give the best aging results. These two irregular thread systems, the undyed weft and the indigo-dyed warp, were slowly woven on shuttle looms in the 1950's to become a true denim art. A coarse, thick, highly textured denim that has a grainy surface and pronounced twill lines when worn, and warps and wrinkles in the wash to give beautiful marbled effects. We paired the denim with tobacco thread, vintage -inspired copper trim, and off-white printed "embroidery" in the back pockets. These details, the fit, and most importantly, the denim, pay homage to the humble heritage of the blue jean worker, but to respect the history, we've increased the weight of the fabric slightly.
We're excited to offer one of our heaviest fabrics to date, Tuff Tony Heavy Selvage!
